GIMP is expandable and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything. The advanced scripting interface allows everything from the simplest task to the most complex image manipulation procedures to be easily scripted.
A freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc.

What a great program! As a dedicated Photoshop user for 10 years, I really appreciate Gimp’s ease of use. I was working with a client last year who had a high ranking blog. She complained that her graphic designer was too slow and always out of town. We talked about a solution and I walked her through downloading Gimp and getting it set up for her blog images. With no previous graphic design experience, she was able to produce images to her satisfaction (they looked pretty good!) and was more independent as a result.
